Heather McCord, an American woman, sparked outrage by claiming that she is Katrice Lee, a British girl who disappeared in 1981 shortly after turning two years old. The woman even created a campaign to raise money and travel thousands of miles to the United Kingdom in order to undergo a DNA test.

However, the missing girl’s father, Richard Lee, completely rejected the story and said it is a hoax aimed at taking advantage of his family’s pain. According to him, this is not the first time people have made similar claims, which has caused anguish for years.

The woman stated: “I’m going to go there and I’m going to take the DNA test and hand over all the evidence I have, whether people like it or not.”

Although McCord insists that she only wants to discover her true identity, authorities confirmed that they are aware of the case and recalled the emotional impact these kinds of situations have on victims’ relatives.
