The young Argentine forward Santiago Arrieta, just 19 years old, experienced a day in Ecuadorian football that was as dreamlike as it was cruel.

In the match between Leones FC and Independiente del Valle, he scored his first goal for his new team with a precise header, sparking a celebration that seemed to mark the perfect start to his career.

But everything changed in a matter of seconds. In the middle of the celebration, Arrieta jumped and, upon landing, planted his leg awkwardly, causing an unnatural movement in his knee. The pain was immediate, and he had to be substituted.

Hours later, the worst-case scenario was confirmed: he suffered a ligament tear, an injury that will keep him off the pitch for several months. To make matters worse, his team ended up losing 2-1 after Independiente del Valle’s comeback, bringing to a close a day that went from absolute hope to harsh reality for the young forward.
