Influencer Joseph Hughes is in the eye of the storm after posting photos of the birth of his third child via surrogacy.
But it wasn’t the news of the baby that set social media on fire, it was an image where he appears in the hospital bed, imitating the exhaustion and effort of childbirth, while the woman who actually gave birth is left in the background.
Thousands accuse him of “appropriating women’s pain” and disrespecting the gestational mother by trying to simulate a biological process he did not go through.
Hughes has asked for prayers for the baby and emphasizes family love.
However, the case reignites the ethical debate on surrogacy and how motherhood is represented in same-sex parent families.
