Dominik Krause has been elected mayor of Munich, marking a historic moment as both the first Green Party leader and the city’s first out gay mayor. The 35-year-old secured victory with 56.4% of the vote, defeating former Social Democratic Party mayor Dieter Reiter in the run-off. Krause celebrated the win by kissing his fiancé, Sebastian Müller, after thanking “the love of my life, without whom all of this would not have been possible.” Sharing the moment on Instagram, he wrote: “Munich, you are simply insane! Our town has chosen to break the dawn today. Thank you for this incredible trust. Let’s get it on!” Krause, who has served on the city council since 2014 and became Second Mayor in 2023, is a Green politician, with a focus on climate action, sustainable urban development, digitalisation, and social policy.
