From now on, any Virgin Atlantic crew member in the UK will be able to show off their tattoos in a call to “encourage staff to be themselves” and “champion individuality”.
Although tattoos are becoming more and more normalized compared to the past when, for example, you couldn’t wear them in the workplace, there are still certain jobs that have their safeguards around them. One of these kinds of jobs is working with a cabin crew. However, now this has seen a major change.
British airline Virgin Atlantic is the first UK airline to allow its cabin crew to display tattoos on their arms while in uniform.
As part of a new recruitment campaign, the company wanted to reflect that they will be flexible with dress and appearance codes, where tattoos will no longer be an issue.
From now on, any uniformed Virgin Atlantic employee will be able to display their tattoos in a call to“encourage staff to be themselves” and “champion individuality”.
Virgin Atlantic was one of the first major airlines to remove the requirement for female cabin crew to wear make-up while on duty in 2019 and also allowed them to wear trousers instead of a skirt.
Via a Twitter post, the company wrote: “Happy International Flight Attendants Day. Today we’re championing the dazzling collection of individuals who are our wonderful cabin crew. We’ve always encouraged our people to be themselves, so from today, they can now show their tattoos with pride.”
