Yuval Topper, along with his partner, were the first to be recognized as two biological fathers of a son in Israel. “I know how meaningful images like this could have been for me,” Yuval said, understanding the breakthrough that the spread of his personal photographs represents.
After years of struggle, a trans man has become a father for the third time and is an example for the LGBTI community. His third baby, in his fourth pregnancy, came after undergoing irregular processes to legally recognize his little one as the son of two fathers.
Yuval Topper, who became a father for the first time in 2011, shared what his latest pregnancy was like. However, it hasn’t been an easy journey for this couple.
After his first pregnancy, the baby boy became the first biological child of two fathers in Israel, which caused paperwork problems in this country when it came to recognizing these parents. At that time, the Ministry of Interior, the body in charge of this kind of recognition, affirmed that it was illegal for a son to have two fathers.
It took two years for Yuval and Matan to be recognized by Israel as two biological fathers. Achieving this recognition was an arduous battle. Now, more calm with his situation, he brought his third little one into the world.
Their last baby was born on May 8, 2019. One year later, they delivered their child in a water birth, capturing the moments in a photoshoot.
“I have always loved birth photography, and halfway there I decided to treat myself to a birth photographer. At that time, I thought it would be a beautiful memory for me and maybe my son, but when I saw the photos I suddenly had the feeling that they need to be published,” Yuval said on his Facebook account Facebook.
Initially, his intention was to record this special moment for the family, which is why they organized a photo shoot with incredible results. For this couple, they’ve encountered difficulties in carrying out their relationship, along with their children, so they’re happy to see the family they’ve created. They want to inspire others in their situation.
“ I know how meaningful images like this could have been for me,” Yuval said. This is a special delivery, which doesn’t happen often, so it can be an example for other trans couples.
For Yuval these photographs “represent so well two causes very close to my heart: normalization of home birth and normalization of trans and non-binary people giving birth.” Many will be inspired by it.
