Meg Avon is a 29-year-old researcher and activist based in Bristol who has garnered global media attention for her connection to nature.

In June 2023, she decided to symbolically marry the River Avon in southwest England as an extreme measure to protect its ecosystem. Three years later, the writer says she remains committed to her cause and swims in open water weekly to maintain her connection with the environment.

Through this act, Meg seeks to humanize environmental laws and raise awareness about wastewater discharge in the United Kingdom. She is currently working with the group Conham Bathers to grant the river legal personality and its own legal rights.
