The South Korean group announced their temporary retirement from music, as the members must comply with their country’s law requiring them to do their service. This means they could return in 2025, but some of their fans, called Armys, have decided to shave their heads while they wait for them.

Music has given us great bands and singers throughout history, and while there are virtually countless of them, the truth is that we tend to keep a couple in our hearts.

Sometimes it may just be a band or singer we admire and decide to follow, which may involve wanting to go to their concerts, meet them in person, get an autograph, collect their albums and official merchandise, among other activities, such as being part of the fan community, and that’s something that the group BTS has achieved on a global level.

The South Korean group, which debuted in 2013, has been gaining fans all over the world, becoming one of the most listened to on streaming services such as Spotify while also breaking records on YouTube with their music videos.

Their accomplishments make their fans, identified as «Armys«, proud and motivate them to continue supporting them at all stages of their career, including their retirement for compulsory military service.

According to South Korean law, most able-bodied men under the age of 30 are required to perform between 18 and 21 months of military service, according to the Daily Mail. This forces BTS to take a three-year career break, meaning their comeback could be during 2025.

The news has saddened the Armys, as it’s a long wait, but some have managed to cheer themselves up while others have taken an initiative to support them by shaving their heads.

A movement called #IshaveforBTS has sprung up on social media, in which some Armys have decided to shave their heads to support their favorite group while they carry out their military service.

«I know they make fun of BTS, but I know there are ‘Armys’ here who are suffering like me. They can’t take our boys away from us. Seriously, all ‘Armys’ will wait three years for you and pray for you in war,»said someone on Facebook according to Excelsior.

At the same time, they have dedicated messages to their most beloved members. «I will always wait for you, Seok-jin,» another person wrote in their post. Both women and men have joined in on this trend, and at the same time, it’s become a reason for memes even within the fan community itself.
