“I knew it was big, but I didn’t expect it to be that big,” said Kayla Rahn, a woman from Alabama who went through a medical nightmare before getting her life back.

For months, she kept gaining weight for no apparent reason and struggled to breathe. Four different doctors told her she just needed to lose weight, and even strangers asked if she was expecting twins.

Everything changed when her mother insisted she go to the emergency room at Jackson Hospital. There, Dr. Richard Sample discovered the truth: it wasn’t fat, but a 22-kilogram ovarian cyst—ironically nicknamed “Juicy Lucy.” The very next day, she underwent successful surgery to remove the mass, which was about the size of a watermelon.

“As a medical community, we failed,” her surgeon later admitted, noting that the tumor had been compressing her organs. Today, Kayla encourages others to seek a second opinion and listen to their bodies.
