«My dress was something special and I loved it, so I just preserved it and kept it all these years. It felt really good to wear it again and we had fun reminiscing about our wedding day,» Nancy Lubbers said according to People. The 87-year-old posed with her husband Melvin, 91, in a session given to them by their granddaughter.
Marriage doesn’t necessarily define how much a couple loves each other, but rather the years they have shared together and all they have faced. However, having a special day when they decide to unite their lives is something that means a lot to those who are husband and wife, and even if decades go by, they will continue to treasure it in their hearts.
Originally from South Dakota, USA, Nancy Lubbers, 87, and her husband Melvin, 91, met at a skating rink when she was just 16 years old. They’ve been in love ever since and didn’t want to spend their lives away from each other, marrying in 1952.

They didn’t have a honeymoon because Melvin was called up to the Korean War shortly after, where he stayed for 8 months. However, 70 years have passed since they gave their vows of love at the altar of the church, and they are still as young in spirit as at that time. They wanted to celebrate it in a very special way.
Anna, one of their granddaughters who works as a photographer, thought how wonderful it would be to give them the photo session they didn’t have on their wedding day and made their dream come true. They both got ready for the occasion, Melvin dressed up in his Army suit and Nancy re-wore her wedding dress that she kept for all these years.

«My grandparents only have a couple of photos from their wedding day. I came up with the idea to take pictures of Grandma in her dress and then my mom, Melissa, found Grandpa’s Korean War Army suit for him to wear,» Anna recounted, according to People.
They were all smiles and looked at each other with loving eyes as if for the first time. The sweet couple posed in their backyard in front of the camera to treasure all the years they’ve shared together and how their affection has only grown.

The white gown looked amazing on Nancy as it did on the day she got married and helped make the day even more perfect. «My dress was something special and I loved it, so I just preserved it and kept it all these years. It felt really good to wear it again and we had fun reminiscing about our wedding day and the photoshoot was a lot of fun,» the bride said, according to People.
«It was really an honor that I could still get in it,» she added, according to the site, while Melvin had fond memories of seeing his wife in the dress and looking as beautiful as ever.

With a family of five children, 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, the two have shared their secret to staying together for so long, something only those who love each other can accomplish. «Always respect each other, even when you don’t agree,» Nancy said, according to People.
Proof that true love doesn’t just exist in the movies.
