“My man is afraid to hold my hand on the street for fear that someone might hit us. My father told him that he’d take that fear away from him and there they are,” the young man said on his Twitter account.
The struggle of the LGBTQ+ community has seen progress among the world’s population, making way to more tolerance and greater recognition of the rights to which they are entitled to. However, in many places, people from this community are still unable to show their love in public for fear of exposing themselves to the violence of others.
This fear leads many of them to hide or deprive themselves of living life like others. And no one deserves to live like that.
On Twitter, a young man named Ruben, known by his username, Oviaska, decided to share a personal experience that moved those online.
The young man said that his boyfriend was afraid to hold his hand while walking around with him as a result of the discrimination that homosexuals experience on a daily basis. In his post, Ruben wrote: “My man is afraid to hold my hand on the street for fear that someone might hit us. My father told him that he’d take that fear away from him and there they are.”
Along with the caption, Ruben shared two photographs of the young man’s father walking through Oviedo, Spain, holding his son-in-law’s hand, a touching image that sends a powerful message.
As soon as Ruben told his father about his boyfriend’s fear, the father-in-law didn’t hesitate to take him by the hand and, proudly, walk beside him.
The couple had gone to visit Ruben’s family when the fear arose, since cities like Oviedo are much more conservative than Madrid, for example.
The tweet went viral and has already received over 194,000 likes and hundreds of comments admiring Ruben’s father for his courage.
