The CEO of Modell, an American sporting goods retailer, went undercover to work in his own company and learned of Angel’s story, a working mom who lived with her three children in a shelter.
This story is set in the United States. Angel is a woman who works as an employee at Modell, a sporting goods store, whose life hasn’t been easy. She got pregnant at the age of 25, and after that, she lost her old job as a restaurant manager.
In her new job at the Modell store, a new employee named Joey arrived, whom she trained and taught her all about the work environment without suspecting that he was actually her real boss in disguise, CEO Mitchell Modell.
During the conversations she had with him, she trusted him enough to tell him stories about her life and her current situation. She confessed to him that she doesn’t have a home to live in. «We’ve been homeless for a long time. We live in a shelter now. It doesn’t matter, though. I don’t want you to feel sad for me,» was what she told him, according to Goalcast.

Angel further detailed that she has been living with her three children in that shelter, all while being filmed for a documentary without even imagining what was really going on. This footage was shot for the show “Undercover Boss”, which features various CEOs working undercover in their own companies to find out what that experience is like while learning about some interesting stories, like Angel’s, Goalcast explained.
She told Joey that she didn’t have a home before she ended up at the shelter either, and that she slept at bus stops and had no money to eat.
Joey was moved by Angel’s story, and so was she. When it came time to reveal the truth to Angel, she couldn’t quite understand the situation and he explained that he shaved his head and grew a mustache to go unnoticed.

Modell took the opportunity to congratulate her on her great work at the company. Not only that, he also gave her the news that he will give her a raise of $14,000 as well as a check for $250,000 so that she can buy a house to live in. «I don’t want you living at that homeless shelter ever again,» Modell said according to Goalcast. She couldn’t believe that she’d received so much good news in such a short amount of time that she fainted from excitement and couldn’t hold back tears.
«I’m going to tell my children that we’re not going back to the shelter anymore, that we’re going to have our own place. They can be kids,» Angel said in the documentary according to Goalcast.
