The product was launched during Paris Fashion Week, where the Spanish brand was presenting its spring-summer 2023 collection on a bizarre catwalk covered in dirt and mud.
A while back, we told you about a controversial launch Balenciaga made: a trash bag-shaped handbag that was being sold on the market for more than $1,500.
Some considered it art, others a mockery of consumers, while Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s director, simply enjoyed the moment, as he «loved a good fashion scandal», and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to create the world’s most expensive trash bag.

Not content with that, he now launched a new product that once again has him at the center of controversy, this time thanks to a wallet with a peculiar design, which is similar to a bag of Lay’s chips.
It all happened during Paris Fashion Week, where the Spanish brand was presenting its spring-summer 2023 collection on a strange catwalk covered in dirt and mud, which soiled the various garments, accessories, and shoes on display.

The expensive crisp bags walked the runway with four models, who showed their designs in different shades and «flavors«: classic, sea salt potato, lemon and flamin’ hot.
Although they look just like a packet of Lay’s potato chips, the material isn’t polypropylene, but something lighter, softer, and foldable, with a zip to «open» the bag. The price is also quite different, as these will cost around $2,000.

Gvasalia warned the audience beforehand that he refused to explain his new collection: «I’ve decided not to explain my collections and verbalize my design, but to express a state of mind. Fashion is a visual and all we need is for it to be seen through someone’s eyes. Fashion in its best-case scenario should not need a story to be told to someone. You either like it or not.”
