The artisans of the Mexican textile company «Impacto» were in charge of creating some of the movie’s iconic costumes.

If there is one movie with which Disney was able to experiment with the world of fashion, it’s «Cruella». Those of us who know this villain from 101 Dalmatians, know that she is a fur lover who’s willing to do anything to put on a good dress. Well, this time Emma Stone brings us her story from the beginning, showing us how this woman became evil and made her way in the fashion world.

Since her arrival to the Disney+ platform, she has given everyone a lot to talk about. Although you have to pay a little extra to see her, many agree it’s worth every penny.

The movie has created a great impression from start to finish, inspired by the past but with a clear look toward what she saw as the future of fashion. The best part is that several of these designs come from a Mexican sewing workshop that was in charge of making and bringing what Emma would wear to life.

For this live-action movie, Disney decided that the best option was to invest in a creatively developed fashion that would also spark social change.

That is why they looked for social organizations in countries such as Argentina, Brazil and Mexico to join the project and include people through different trades in the textile industry. This is how the company Impacto was able to connect with Disney.

A group of female artisans were in charge of making the jackets, t-shirts, ponchos and accessories that made up Cruella’s outfits. According to their website, their development is sustainable and innovative, and they contribute to the wellbeing of their native peoples.

This is how great Mexican designs were incorporated into Cruella de Vil’s costumes, bringing a touch of Latin America to those extravagant dresses.

Of course, many of the designs were carried out thanks to Jenny Beavan, who’s won two Oscars for best costumes. She is a fashionista who was inspired by her life in the 70s and brought the fashion of that time into the film but with a futuristic jump that makes Cruella so special.

Throughout the film, Emma Stone wore around 50 different pieces, quite an arduous job which will probably result in Jenny being awarded her third Oscar. Make sure you don’t miss Disney’s latest production, and maybe even catch Cruella again by rewatching 101 Dalmatians.

They put in a lot of hard work, and it’s great to get to know more about our villains!
