Xóchitl Cruz is only 8, and she was recognized in Mexico for her innovative invention. She did it in just two weeks.

At the age of 8, Xóchitl Guadalupe Cruz noticed that in her community, people were cutting down trees to get firewood and hot water, as gas heaters are very expensive, and unfortunately, some people can’t buy them.

Little Xóchitl was concerned about indiscriminate logging, so she decided to do something to reduce it, and to help not only the planet but also the people who don’t have the possibility of buying those heaters to have hot water at a low cost, she told Imagen Noticias. Therefore, she built a solar water heater with recycled materials with her own hands and creativity.

The invention has two glass doors, a few bottles, a hose, and a tank. Even thought it sounds “simple,” it involves a lot of work. But she did it in just two weeks. Up today, she has helped many people in Chiapas, Mexico, the city where Xóchitl lives.

The girl has just received an important award for her project. The Nuclear Sciences Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has awarded women who had demonstrated outstanding skills on science diffusion.

“I’m very happy for the award, I never imagined getting here.” the girl told the local channel. At her young age, she has proven her amazing intelligence and ability. But just like her, all girls and boys are capable of achieving anything they want, that’s why she’s an inspiration to all of them.
