One of these people is Dr. Subodh Kumar Singh, who is a world-renowned specialist surgeon who wanted to contribute his experience and his talent as a professional to perform free operations to children suffering from cleft lip/ palate.

According to information from The New Indian Express, this surgeon has been able to help 25,000 families by performing 37,000 free cleft lip and palate surgeries.

However, Kumar’s vocation to help out isn’t new. This doctor has always taken it upon himself to help others and has been interested in aiding the most vulnerable populations since he was a college student.

The doctor told how he lost his father when he was 13 years old and how his family lived in extreme poverty. According to him, his parents «taught him to serve the poor and live ethically. I feel that God made me a plastic surgeon and not a businessman to serve a divine cause.»

Despite these economic hardships, Kumar was able to study in college and become a doctor. From then on, when he was able to perform his first surgeries and made the decision to help children.

 His specialization in cleft lip allowed him to treat thousands of children with this birth condition and give them their smiles back.

He also founded the GS Memorial Plastic Surgery Hospital to make surgeries more accessible to those who couldn’t afford them. Along with that, he has partnered with foundations, such as Smile Train, that treat specific cases of children who need corrective surgery on their lips and palates.

Through all this, he’s been able to change the lives of thousands of children. In addition, he plans to perform 6,000 burn reconstructive surgeries free of charge. «In every cleft child who has come to me, I have visualized that little Subodh, who lost his father when he was only 13,” closed the doctor.
