The beautiful Nyakim Gatwech delivers a message to girls of African descent.

Racism, and in fact all kinds of prejudice and discrimination towards different skin colors, has always been a constant in humanity. Hundreds of years ago, it even led to slavery and murders based on a rejection or fear of those who looked different.

After all that, history has continued to witness prejudice and even beauty stereotypes that unfairly discriminate and exclude people of African descent.

Nyakim Gatwech is a victim of these prejudices. She’s managed to overcome them and fulfill her dreams. This 24-year-old model from South Sudan who currently resides in Minnesota, the United States stands out and receives praise for her beauty and dark complexion.

With determination and self-confidence, she not only advocates for the diversity of beauty in the fashion world, but also seeks to vindicate dark skin.

Once an Uber driver advised her to make her skin lighter, to which she just replied with laughter. Her life and success send a message to those of Africa descent around the world.

“Black is bold, black is beautiful, black is gold… Don’t let American standards damage your African soul (…) You wouldn’t believe the kind of questions I get and the kind of looks I get for having this skin.”

– Nyakim declared, according to El Espectador.

For this and more, she’s been called the “Queen of Darkness“. Regardless of the racist comments she’s received on the street and on social media, she remains proud of her skin color. “My chocolate is elegant. So is what I represent… a nation of warriors.” she says on her Instagram, always with a smile and great confidence.
