The woolly elephant is incredible.

I think we’ve all thought at one point or another about freezing ourselves to be able to travel to the future. We know, it’s an absurd idea, but it’s a good plot to start a movie or a series. Now, the truth is that, as crazy as it sounds, a lot of interesting things have been found in ice.

For example…

1. Virus

In Russia, they discovered a virus that’s 30,000 years old. It’s not dangerous to humans, but they believe that deep in the Kolyma River, where it was found, there are others that might be.

2. Girl

In 1999, on the summit of the Andes Mountain in Llullaillaco, they found this girl between 13 and 15 years old. She’d died about 500 years ago from a blow to the head. The cold kept her body intact.

3. Mammoth

Found in Russia, this mammoth lived 39,000 years ago. His name is Yuka, he’s about 3 meters long and, because he was under the ice, even his hair was preserved.

4. Ötzi, the mummy

This person lived 3,300 years before Christ. His body was found by mountaineers in 1991. His body was mummified by the temperatures and, through a DNA analysis, scientists discovered that he has 19 living descendants.

5. Treasure

Something stuck out of the ice on the roads leading up to Mont Blanc. When they opened the box, there were 100 precious stones inside. In total, everything was valued at $337,000.

6. Viking clothing

This tunic is 1,500 years old and was found in a glacier in southern Norway.

7. Airplane

In 1952, an aircraft went missing with 41 passengers and 11 crew members in Alaska. In 2012, the plane was found along with 17 bodies, but they’re still trying to find the rest of the people.

8. First World War

There were many deaths in World War I. In an Italian village, they discovered a few mummified soldiers’ bodies from 100 years ago, all thanks to the ice.

9. Forest

An Alaskan forest was spotted in the Mendenhall Glacier. It was buried by a tsunami 2,000 years ago.

10.  Woolly rhinoceros

In 2007, geologists found the body of a 1-million-year-old woolly rhino calf.
