«I was told that my house is a poor house, an ugly house. After I was humiliated, I was very sad. I went into depression. I started painting so that the house wouldn’t look ugly,» said Eurides Santos Silva. She is proud of the result.

Something important to always keep in mind in life is humility. There is no point in bragging to others about money or, worse still, offending others for simply being less wealthy.

Eurides Santos Silva, 49, who lives in Jardim Aero Rancho in Campo Grande, Brazil, was recently the victim of this kind of discrimination after a neighbor tried to humiliate her by telling her that her house «was for the poor» because it was a simple dwelling. However, far from getting angry, she responded in kind.

Faced with such an unpleasant comment, Eurides thought that the best way to show how proud she was of her house was to give it more details that would identify it with her personality, without modifying its essence. For this reason, she painted it with flowers and decorated it with recyclable ornaments.

«I was told that my house is a poor house, an ugly house. After I was humiliated, I was very sad. I went into depression. I started painting so that the house wouldn’t look ugly,» he told Campo Grande News.

With a lot of color and love, she wants to inspire others so that no one else goes through the same unpleasant moment that her neighbor put her through. It’s even an environmentally friendly initiative because she used plastic bottles, cans and other waste materials to decorate her house, and people have even wanted to buy her decorations.

«Last week, a man came, thought it was beautiful and asked. Since I had enough, I gave him one. I don’t sell it, because it’s very simple,» he said. «There’s nothing original here, it’s just love and dedication,» she added.

For Eurides, it is more than just a house. The house, where she lives with her husband Carlos and three of their four children, has changed over time thanks to the effort she has made to improve it. Little by little, she has been giving it special touches, which is why she is proud of her house.

«I did it to be an example of what everyone can do. You can see something you like, try to do it, and give free rein to your imagination. I feel better, it’s therapy,» he said.
