Sarah Goodlad is 45 years old. She didn’t get to live in the 1940s era, but she brings the era back with her outfits, making her wish come true without caring about the opinion of others. «I find the clothing so much more refined and elegant than modern fashion,» the Englishwoman told Daily Mail.
The fashion of some old eras are appreciated by many people, particularly by those who lived through those times, but they’re also appreciated by those who didn’t. There are young people who admire the design of some garments such as dresses, skirts, pants, and even hairstyles that are no longer used.
One of these people is Sarah Goodlad, a 45-year-old woman who is passionate about women’s clothing from the 1940s. She lives in Leicestershire (England) and creates all her clothes herself, buying fabrics from the United States.
Her closet is filled with over 300 garments of this classic style, having spent almost $7,000 in total. «The UK market is extremely expensive and most of my materials would cost up to five times more from what I pay from America,» Sarah explained to Daily Mail.

For the past 10 years, Sarah has been doing this, an idea that may be crazy to some, but her husband fully supports her, despite not following her same style. «I have always loved history and vintage fashion for as long as I can remember, especially the wartime era,» the woman told the same media outlet. The production process takes her months, but it’s worth it because they look great, and it’s something you can’t find just anywhere.
She’s an expert in designing clothes. For her, the patterns and types of fabrics are very important, as well as their elegance, a characteristic that she considers lost nowadays. She also does her hair and makeup like women of the era she adores so much. «I cannot ever really start until I find the right pattern for the outfit,» she added in the interview.
«I find the clothing so much more refined and elegant than modern fashion, and the patterns and fabrics used were much nicer than the poorer quality materials found in mainstream fashion today,» Sarah detailed to Daily Mail.

She isn’t a fan at all of today’s trends and considers good presentation essential. «I feel some people just wake up and do not even look at themselves in the mirror,» she commented to the same site. She receives compliments on the street, but at the same time, she surprises people when she replies that this is how she dresses on a daily basis.
She was once mistaken for a worker at the historical museum she attended with her husband, and the person who asked her didn’t expect to know that this is how she looks every day. «Someone stopped me to ask questions about the exhibits to which I had to awkwardly explain that this is how I dress,» Sarah told the same source.
It’s a matter of attitude, after all, fashion is often recycled. Perhaps, this style will come back someday. Sarah’s clothing is admirable for the dedication and effort they take to design.
