William Bryan, a 70-year-old veteran, died in Florida after surgeon Thomas Shaknovsky mistakenly removed his liver instead of his spleen.

According to the complaint filed by his widow, Beverly Bryan, the doctor even labeled the organ as “spleen” before noticing the fatal error. The liver is considerably larger and is on the opposite side of the body, which caused a catastrophic hemorrhage.

Preliminary reports from the firm Zarzaur Law indicate that the doctor already had a prior incident in 2023 for mistakenly removing part of a pancreas.

Today, with his medical license permanently suspended, Shaknovsky awaits his first appearance before the judge. The Bryan family can finally breathe after a year of tireless struggle.
