A routine checkup turned into a surreal scene for Margerita B. Wargola when her eyes turned a bright, intense green. The effect occurred because the patient forgot to remove her contact lenses before fluorescein was applied, a dye used by ophthalmologists to detect corneal injuries.

The lenses absorbed the liquid instantly and, since she didn’t have a spare pair of glasses, the woman had to go back home sporting that science-fiction look that quickly went viral.

Although the image made an impact, doctors confirmed that the dye is harmless and that the color was only trapped in the plastic material of the lenses, returning to normal once she took them off.
