A dog does not understand crimes. It only understands not letting go of its human.
That early morning in Ate Vitarte, a man stole the belongings of Carlos Rikse, a combi driver, and escaped in a mototaxi that was waiting for him to flee. What no one expected was that his dog, which was resting near the road, got up and crossed the street behind the vehicle. It ran several blocks dodging cars, without straying from the route, until police intercepted the mototaxi eight minutes later.
The dog arrived exhausted minutes later. A witness said it barked, but not aggressively, rather as if it were trying to protect its owner while officers carried out the intervention. They took the detainee to the Vitarte police station. The dog stayed waiting at the door until dawn, without understanding the seriousness of what had happened, only knowing that it had to be there.
