An anonymous person donated $100,000 so that a meal program for older adults would not close

Diana Holcomb has no one. When she learns that the program that delivered meals to her was going to close in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, she does not stay silent: she calls a local television station and tells her story, although she does not know whether anyone will listen.

“I thought: what is going to happen? Where am I going to get food?”, she said. Wesley Family Services had announced the end of “Open Your Heart to a Senior” due to a lack of federal funding, leaving dozens of vulnerable older people like her without support.

Days after the broadcast, an anonymous donor contacted the organization and gave $100,000 to keep the program running for another year. “There is someone out there who cares”, Diana said through tears. Sometimes all it takes is telling your story for someone else to decide to change it.
