Dog climbed onto her kennel to watch the shelter door, waiting for the owners who abandoned her

Pandora climbed onto her own kennel just to get a better view of the door.

She was two years old, a Labrador mix, and carried the weight of an abandonment she did not understand. At the animal shelter in Aljaraque, Huelva, Juan Martín watched her spend entire days keeping an eye on the path, convinced that her family was going to come back for her. They never did.

Her story went viral on Facebook, and dozens of adoption applications came in, but it was María, an Argentine woman living in Barcelona, who ended up taking her home. María was still carrying the grief over Zarek, her Labrador, who had died a little earlier, and had promised herself she would not adopt again so she would not have to suffer again. When she saw Pandora, something inside her broke in the right way.

Today Pandora is called Dora. She has a new bed, a new harness, and a home where no one leaves her waiting at the door. Sometimes healing someone begins by letting them heal you first.
