“Glory to God, glory to God!”: Daycare teachers covered the children with their own bodies, creating a “human shield”

At a preschool in Cali, the teachers did not have time to think. They moved on instinct: they surrounded the children, hugged them, and formed a barrier with their own bodies against what was falling from the ceiling.

One of the hosts joined the circle. A worker knelt down amid the tremor and began praying out loud, while the little ones cried in fear, not understanding what was happening.

Amid such a tragedy of that magnitude, there were adults who did not hesitate to put their own bodies between danger and the children in their care.
