Erling Haaland made headlines again, although this time it was not for his goals or the 2026 World Cup.
The Norwegian striker bought a copy of “Heimskringla”, a historic book from the year 1594 that brings together the ancient sagas of the Viking kings and is considered a true jewel of Norwegian heritage. The acquisition cost around 100,000 pounds sterling, more than $130,000, making it one of the most expensive book purchases in the country’s history.
But what really surprised people came afterward: instead of keeping it in a private collection, Haaland decided to donate it to the library in Bryne, the city where he grew up, so that anyone could read it and learn more about the history of their region.
“I am living my dream, but I know that books help many people dream and achieve theirs”, the striker explained when justifying the gesture.
The valuable copy will remain on permanent display so that local residents, students, and visitors can access a unique piece of Norway’s history free of charge.
A gesture very different from what many expected from one of the biggest stars in world football.
