Lucas Trejo, 38, Argentine defender for Sport Marítimo de La Guaira, had gone three days without news of his wife Yanina Maranella and his children Aarón, 7, and Ainhoa, 5. The building where they lived, in Playa Grande, Venezuela, collapsed after two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on June 24, 2026.

While he was training in Caracas, he posted a desperate message asking people to pray for his family. After 74 hours of searching through the rubble, authorities confirmed what he feared: all three bodies had been found dead.

His sister Karen said that Lucas went into such severe shock that they had to sedate him in a hospital. He cannot speak by phone, he has no relatives nearby and, according to her, there is not even time: the bodies could be cremated before anyone manages to reach him.
“We need them to travel as soon as possible, because tomorrow would be the cremation”, his sister said through tears.
