The 2026 World Cup continues to spark debate, but this time not because of what happens on the field. Ticket prices for the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey have caused outrage among fans because of their huge difference compared with previous editions.

According to data published by Associated Press, the most expensive ticket for the final initially cost 8,680 dollars during an early sales phase. Months later, FIFA raised that value to 10,990 dollars through its dynamic pricing system.

However, the controversy grew when “Front Category 1” tickets later appeared for 32,970 dollars, a figure that surpasses any previous record for a World Cup final.

The comparison with Qatar 2022 quickly went viral. In that edition, the most expensive ticket for the final was around 1,600 dollars, which means that the best seat for the 2026 final came to cost more than 20 times that amount.

The criticism mainly points to the dynamic pricing system used by FIFA, which adjusts prices according to demand. While some defend the measure by arguing that it is the most important sporting event on the planet, others believe the tournament is moving further and further away from the average fan.

For many supporters, the question is inevitable: is the World Cup still a celebration for fans, or is it becoming a spectacle reserved for a select few?
