A video of a surfer riding a wave went viral on social media and has already accumulated more than 2,5 million views, although many of the comments ended up talking about something quite different from the quality of the wave.

The protagonist is Georgie-May Hicks, a surfer who has been competing for years and is listed with the International Surfing Association. She has also taken part in competitions such as Boardmasters, one of the major events on the British surfing calendar.

In the clip that began circulating widely, Hicks appears surfing a wave in a bikini while managing to stay on the board and ride along the face of the wave.

The video quickly began to rack up views, as well as comments from users who were particularly interested in finding out who the surfer was.

This is the biggest surf obsession I’ve ever had“, one person wrote.

Another user joked: “Those who are interested don’t remember the color of the surfboard”.

Curiosity led several users to search for her identity, and they eventually found Georgie-May Hicks, who also shares surfing content and her life by the sea on her Instagram account, @georgiemay.hicks.

And although the viral video may have meant that many people were only just discovering her name, Hicks is not a newcomer to the sport. In 2026, she won the Kukuna Pro Junior championship with a combined score of 13,13, according to posts from the event.

So yes: the video racked up millions of views and turned Georgie-May into a new social media sensation.

Although, judging by some comments, not all the new “surf fans” were exactly paying attention to how she was riding the wave. 😂
