It was Monday, August 10, at 7:34 in the morning, when a magnitude 7.4 earthquake shook Colombia. In the Ciudad Capri neighborhood, a woman was holding her barely six-month-old baby when the walls began to crumble. She threw herself over the little one and covered him with her entire body as the floor above fell on top of them.
That is how rescuers found them hours later: her with an injured arm, him without a scratch, still wrapped in her arms. When they managed to get them out, the entire group burst into applause and tears — the video of that moment spread across social media within minutes. 🙌
As the country counted more than 130 dead and hundreds injured, and Cali woke up under curfew and a hospital alert, that scene became proof that, even beneath the ruins, the instinct to protect can overcome tragedy.
