In a segment featuring Jack Black and Paul Rudd organized by LADbible Entertainment, the two discussed the quality of sequels, with Black pointing to the Toy Story trilogy as the best example.

“I’d say Toy Story is maybe the best, the greatest trilogy… until they decided to make a fourth one,” Black emphasized.
The actor also compared the trilogy to The Godfather and The Empire Strikes Back, stressing that there’s no need to keep extending a franchise. In his view, Toy Story worked perfectly as a three-part story and was spoiled by the fourth installment.

He also spoke about the emotional impact Toy Story 3 had on him: “The third one was fantastic. It was a total tearjerker, man—when they’re all holding hands right before going into the furnace, oh my God, forget it… I literally made an audible crying sound.”
